When the magazine was first launched in the 1970s, manufacturers had to send wholesalers and retailers 'lists' of when their next roll of whatever carpet was going to come off the loom. Customers might then be told that a pattern in their chosen colour wasn't being made again for 13 weeks! So the magazine often ran to more than 100 pages listing thousands of carpet qualities and their production schedule.

Now, in the days of Amazon, everybody wants everything immediately and The Stocklists has changed dramatically too and offers instant news

The Mayville Publishing Company has published The Stocklists since 1973 when it was founded by Roy Spragg. Now his daughter Diane and son David run the publication.
