Interior transformation by design

Flooring has the power to transform an interior – so it was really interesting to learn where some of our biggest flooring brands get their colour and design inspiration from.

Helping homeowners create vibrant, welcoming and highly personal spaces, Amtico’s characterful laying patterns are designed to make it as easy as possible to create the right foundation for the rest of the room. Bringing creative flair to life, these intricate laying patterns are a helpful tool to showcase unique flooring designs at their best.

The way in which floor tiles and planks are arranged can make a big difference to the overall look and feel of a space. Laying patterns have the power to make a room feel larger, split an open-plan area into different zones, add impact with contrasting colours and even create a focal point with the help of motifs. Developed to suit all styles of property and to give maximum creative freedom, Amtico’s extensive range of laying patterns include both classic and contemporary styles, spanning different levels of complexity.

Removing the stress from choosing a floor, Amtico’s Designers’ Choice collection provides stockists with an extensive range of pre-designed combinations for easy ordering. These unique laying patterns, designed and manufactured in the UK, have been carefully curated by the design team and are the result of extensive experiments with colours, patterns and texture. From sophisticated and elegant parquet to charming, contemporary flagstone, Amtico offers endless possibilities to achieve flooring that is as memorable as it is practical.

For timeless glamour you can’t beat Brockway’s new Gatsby collection.
Inspired by the opulence of the golden era, Gatsby can be characterised by a distinct luxurious elegance, art deco style and the glitz and glamour of
early Hollywood décor.

This stylish collection encapsulates the Art Deco spirit of sleek geometric patterns, clean shapes and simple lines. Gatsby’s linear herringbone design makes a strong and bold statement balanced with the decadent luxury of 100% pure wool. The stylish palette of eight tonal shades will take you right back to the golden era, bringing refined elegance to your living space. Step back in the roaring twenties style with Brockway’s great Gatsby!

The warm, rich tones and essentially English quality of pure wool has inspired Brockway’s new Cotswolds collection. Perfectly suited to both contemporary and traditional schemes, this beautiful textured loop carpet with classic linear lines will bring instant warmth and character to your space. With a versatile palette of seven natural shades, this hardwearing, luxurious and comfortable collection is suitable for all areas of the home and general contract.

Adam Carpets are renowned for their in-depth research into new colour trends. So, it was particularly rewarding when Pantone, the worlds largest colour forecasting institute announced their 2021 colours of the year, as they correlated with palettes Adam Carpets had already developed.

Pantone selected a pairing of colours as their colour of the year for 2021. The combination of Ultimate Gray (17-5104) and Illuminating (13-0647) were chosen to inspire us and give us hope for the future. They identified that consumers needed to feel everything is going to be brighter, so selected Illuminating as it encapsulates strength and positivity. This is balanced with Gray, as the natural element, the colour of pebbles on the beach which signifies the ability to stand the test of time. Combined, they engender feelings of positivity, composure, steadiness, and resilience.

Kelly Butler, design manager at Adam Carpets explains how this colour pairing is used in their collections, “The floor can create a striking effect in home décor, and there’s a world of design opportunities to explore with Adam Carpets. You can see from our mood-board the array of high-quality plain carpets such as Fine Worcester Twist and Castlemead Twist, our stunning Stripes and our subtle tonal herringbone colourways in Flare”.
Each collection is available in 4m and 5m widths and manufactured in Adam Carpets own modern factory in Kidderminster.

Karndean Designflooring’s rigid core technology makes beautiful flooring much more accessible. Tiles and planks can be simply clicked into place, making them easy to place, remove and place again. The innovative K-Core layer, means rigid core products can be laid directly over most existing hard floors without the need for extensive subfloor preparation.

The unique rigid core construction and foam backing also reduces noise transfer to rooms below up to 21db. The new Van Gogh collection of plank and herringbone designs is Karndean Designflooring’s latest collection to use the rigid core technology.

We asked Stella Coyle, national retail sales manager to share the design inspiration behind the Van Gogh collection, “Like all Karndean floors, the designs are handcrafted to reflect the intricate beauty of real timber, but Grey Brushed Oak, Warm Brushed Oak and Golden Brushed Oak Van Gogh rigid core designs feature a new, natural wood grain emboss, accentuating the natural texture and aesthetics of the individual wood that inspired it.”

The Van Gogh rigid core herringbone design is available in four beautiful colours, Grey Brushed Oak, Warm Brushed Oak, Golden Brushed Oak and Salvaged Barnwood. All except Salvaged Barnwood feature the new natural grain emboss.

Pattern is making a strong and welcome return to home interiors, but until now it hasn’t been available with stain free protection. The launch of Abingdon Flooring’s brand-new StainFree Wilton collection means flooring retailers can promote pattern with confidence.

To make selecting the perfect pattern easy, Abingdon Flooring has grouped the woven Wilton collection on two lecterns. One lectern contains all the modern plaid designs while the other celebrates the elegance of the collection’s floral and damask designs.

Millie Barlow, head of marketing, Abingdon Flooring: “It’s important to remember that for many interested shoppers, this might well be the first time they’ve considered a patterned carpet and so we’ve tried to make that decision a little easier for them. Creating a strong group on each lectern keeps the focus on a particular style of pattern – modern plaid or classic floral – and avoids the customer feeling overwhelmed and indecisive.”
From contemporary plaids in Chatsworth, Chequers and Balmoral to the hessian-like Blenheim, the intricate florals of Chartwell and the damasks of Sandringham and Highgrove; StainFree Wilton makes a strong argument for choosing patterned carpet.

Each style is available in a 4m wide and is made from high-quality polypropylene yarn, making it a perfect addition to the renowned StainFree range that is backed with a 10-year wear warranty and is bleach cleanable.

It’s no secret that one of the biggest issues facing the UK flooring industry is the shortage of skilled labour, and this is a problem that’s only likely to get worse as the older generation hangs up its tools and finds fewer and fewer young hands willing to take up the trade. While the overall declining interest in practical trades is a matter to be addressed by all stakeholders – particularly at a Government level – flooring manufacturers and specialised training outfits have long been playing their parts to raise standards within the industry.
