Satisfying our appetite for design inspiration

Rita Bancroft • June 29, 2022

As a nation we are obsessed with home décor. Our appetite for design inspiration is filled by home renovation programmes, beautiful interior magazines and stylists, marketing by brands, interior retail shops, and our own on and offline social communities.

Invictus is their community of enthusiastic Invictus fans, which includes retailers, fitters, and consumers. By sharing photos of their project, the Invictus community demonstrate how Invictus flooring can uplift any space, regardless of interior style, and in turn inspire others to do the same.

Images are reshared on the Invictus official social media platforms, which combined have over 15,000 followers. Customers are inspired to make their own mood-boards to take instore, with many retailers also referring to the social community by integrating it into their sales conversations.

Some of the most popular designs are all-time classics that have been reinterpreted and are now more popular than ever. These include New England Oak with its variegated oak herringbone pattern in soft and subtle colours and Victorian Treasure, a mesmerizing statement floor inspired by handmade cement tiles that comes in two alluring shades with optional borders.

Adam Carpets keep a close eye on trends and how they influence interior décor. For example, “Ombre” is the biggest thing to be looked up via Etsy at the moment. It’s an effect that will create mood, depth, and calm in a home.

Sumptuous tones of colours that melt and fade into each other, creating a beautiful visual effect that is fresh and current.

“The broken design effect of our Panache range allows the
multiple hues to blend and become a harmony of colour.”

Adam Carpets explains how they have translated this design inspiration into their carpet, “Blending several shades of colour is now firmly being seen in interiors everywhere. The broken design effect of our Panache range allows the multiple hues to blend and become a harmony of colour. Hence Panache fits beautifully into the current desire for an Ombre look.”

Available in a collection of beautifully considered colourways, the Panache carpet design can be either a subtle backdrop or make strong design statement depending on which of the six colourways you choose.

Kelly adds, “Panache is our solution to allow a stripe to be more than just a stair carpet, as it’s been specifically designed and coloured to be empathetic and blend into its surroundings”.

Panache is made in Adam Carpets Kidderminster factory using premium accredited UK wool and available in 4 metre and 5 metre widths, and each colourway is designed to coordinate with their extensive plain ranges.

For Alternative it’s never just a carpet but design-led flooring that gets as much attention and adulation as any other interiors feature. Exceptional carpets, rugs and runners manu-crafted from the finest wool, natural and faux fibres where texture, colour, and pattern surprise, excite and delight.

Woosie is a first from Alternative, a wonderful new wool and sisal mix carpet. It is where patterned wool and sisal fibres meet to create a naturally strong stylish carpet. The trio of new designs are Woosie Check, Woosie Panama and Woosie Boucle in a palette of popular neutrals from warm golden shades to cool contemporary greys.

“Woosie brings out the best qualities of two natural fibres
which are firm favourites in interiors.”

Woosie brings out the best qualities of two natural fibres which are firm favourites in interiors. The three-ply woollen yarn gives the soft and luxurious feel underfoot while the hardwearing sisal adds rustic texture and a lustrous sheen. Both are sustainable.

Alternative has spent 26 years exploring what its world will look like, populating it with talented people, making innovative products and finessing its ethos. Today this great British brand is built on the pillars of People, Product and Planet.

People are those who make Alternative alternative; Products, quality craftmanship and design at the brand’s core and Planet, caring about giving back with what it calls smart sustainability.

LVT is ideal for any room, but for Amtico, it’s all about inspiring consumers to select flooring that suits the style of their space. With so many flooring styles available and so many spaces in a home, it is helpful to seek out their design inspiration.

A great example is bathroom floors, which are sometimes overlooked, but are versatile spaces that can be enhanced with a striking floor design to frame the bath, as with Amtico Décor Classic Argent with a Marble Small Parquet floor (pictured above).

“Amtico’s expert designers have done all the hard work, experimenting with textures, tones and patterns to create a vast choice of inspirational flooring options”

With their Designers’ Choice collection, Amtico’s expert designers have done all the hard work, experimenting with textures, tones and patterns to create a vast choice of inspirational flooring options. Designers’ Choice combines laying patterns with Wood, Stone and Abstract products from Amtico’s premium Signature collection. Endless Possibilities takes this creativity further, providing the option to choose any Designers’ Choice laying pattern and try different Signature colours and products for a unique combination.

To help visualise these sophisticated patterns in a space, Amtico’s website features the Room Visualiser – a digital platform with both virtual spaces and the option to upload a room photo – making it easy to see how different patterns and colours complement an interior. And Instagram or Pinterest are perfect places for inspiration too, with current imagery showcasing how Amtico style different spaces.

It’s no secret that one of the biggest issues facing the UK flooring industry is the shortage of skilled labour, and this is a problem that’s only likely to get worse as the older generation hangs up its tools and finds fewer and fewer young hands willing to take up the trade. While the overall declining interest in practical trades is a matter to be addressed by all stakeholders – particularly at a Government level – flooring manufacturers and specialised training outfits have long been playing their parts to raise standards within the industry.
