The stylish choice

Stone flooring is gaining renewed attention this season, with designers blending its natural beauty with the latest trends and colour palettes. The new Art Select range by Karndean Designflooring brings a fresh contemporary interpretation to some of the most iconic floors with a collection of indulgent stone designs.

Guaranteed to bring a sense of luxury to any room, from kitchens, bathrooms and hallways to bedrooms and living rooms, the Art Select range combines authentic organic looks with a toughness that takes modern life in its stride. Inspired by interesting and precious stones from around the world, the collection includes the classic opulence of marble and travertine as well as stones with more humble origins such as Ceppo di Gré.

Gavin Smith, Marketing Director at Karndean Designflooring, said: “Nothing makes a statement or oozes sophistication like a stunning stone floor, so we are delighted that these beautiful floors are being rediscovered by a new generation of home decorators.

“The new Art Select collection includes some of our favourite stones, collected on our travels around the world. New quartzite and pavimento designs are the perfect choice to complement a cool colour scheme in blues or greens to evoke calm and a restorative effect, while the chalky beauty of travertine is guaranteed to enhance warm rose or wine hues. Those looking for a more unusual choice might look to the ethereal and pearlescent beauty of our Persian onyx designs, a material not normally available for flooring due to its fragility, available in a choice of white, pink and black colourways”.

He adds, “One of the many benefits of Karndean flooring is its outstanding versatility to create a look that expresses individuality. Tiles can be laid in brick, block or herringbone patterns, with or without design strips which give a grouting effect. With a consistent thickness, designs can be blended in any combination. Two or more complementary stone designs can be used to create a sense of depth and movement, or contrasting stone and wood designs in hand-cut shapes combined for a truly unique result."

Steve Urwin, Retail Marketing Manager at Tarkett said, “Whenever we are putting together a UK LVT range the question always arises around the stone / ceramic tile format. Our European colleagues always assumed that the UK needs more tile styles than the other EU markets. Over recent years this has not been the case as much, with wood effects accounting for around 70% of sales”.

Tarkett reports that tastes have changed as more people are embracing the classic looks that only a beautiful ceramic tile design can deliver.
Urwin explains: “The format preferences have evolved, as even though our homes tend to have smaller rooms than in some other countries, larger format tiles are growing in popularity. And because they look great and replicate the real material more authentically, the nostalgic and classic look of an intricate ’Victorian Style’ entrance hall is once again much in demand.

“With our Inspiration by Tarkett collection, what we can achieve is only limited to the palette of colours we have in the studio. We have been asked for all kinds of combinations and are quite happy to create them so long as people can wait for the custom design service”.

The classic Victorian style looks absolutely striking in an entrance hall, but Tarkett are also seeing it being installed in kitchens and other areas as well, and why not - tile styles are well and truly back it seems.

Moduleo Moods unlocks unlimited design potential by making flooring flexible. Its versatile Moods luxury vinyl collection allows consumers to create uniquely personal interiors. To unlock a world of total design freedom, an additional nine base shapes and the full palette from the Moduleo Roots collection are on hand to give homeowners complete flexibility.

To help homeowners bring their creative ideas to life, Moduleo’s in-house designers have developed 15 patterns across a range of natural wood and stone decors to give over 70 different standard floor designs.
Homeowners can now enjoy everything from bold, high-contrast diamond patterns and wood and stone chevrons to geometric twists on floral designs or subtle wood hexagons. Moods transforms interior spaces from ordinary to bespoke, simply through four shapes and 12 authentic wood and stone effects.

Every choice of wood and stone in Moods, including classics such as Blackjack Oak, Sierra Oak and Triana, also features EIR (emboss in register) and an ultra-matt surface to give a true natural look. Each of these options come in Moduleo’s 0.55mm luxury vinyl specification, with scratch and stain protection to ensure they can withstand use in hallways and living spaces. As Moduleo is also water-resistant, bathrooms too can enjoy any Moods design. Better still, Moduleo Moods is easy to clean, so it stays looking good in the busiest of family homes.

It’s no secret that one of the biggest issues facing the UK flooring industry is the shortage of skilled labour, and this is a problem that’s only likely to get worse as the older generation hangs up its tools and finds fewer and fewer young hands willing to take up the trade. While the overall declining interest in practical trades is a matter to be addressed by all stakeholders – particularly at a Government level – flooring manufacturers and specialised training outfits have long been playing their parts to raise standards within the industry.
