The versatility of tile styles
Providing unrivalled design choice and installation versatility, we take a look at the latest styles and material specifications available in tile formats.
More than ever, today’s homes are an expression of our individuality and many of us are choosing to style our interiors to reflect our personality and our aspirations. Incorporating tactile materials such as stone, wood, wool and ceramics not only adds interest but also links us to the
health-giving benefits of the natural world outside.
Stella Coyle, national retail sales manager of
Karndean Designflooring, said: “Whether your customer is looking to complement a gentle earthy scheme with artisan textures, an adventurous vibrant palette and fresh playful accessories or a surprising combination of bold colours and quirky shapes, a stone design floor can bring seemingly disparate aspects together into a seamless and stylish result.

“Our Korlok range presents a stone collection inspired by the design possibilities of limestone. Frosted Stone, with its cool silver tones and clear veining, will add fresh tones to a pared back scheme while vibrant colours will pop against the unobtrusive and versatile mid-grey hues of Metro Grey. For eclectic schemes in bold colours, the striking charcoal-grey of Volcanic Black will bring a sense of balance.”

Like all Karndean floors, Korlok is a practical choice for busy modern homes with a hard wearing, waterproof surface that’s easy to keep hygienically clean. The large tiles (18” x 24”) are ideal for open plan spaces and feature an enhanced acoustic layer which helps to reduce noise transfer to rooms below by 21dB. Korlok’s rigid core format and 5G click locking mechanism makes this a floor that can be fitted quickly even over imperfect sub-floors and is completed with a colour matched scotia.
Cork tiles have been making their mark on interior design since the 1920s. A resurgence in popularity can be attributed to its sustainable and eco-friendly credentials, while the natural aesthetic lends itself well to contemporary design.
Granorte offers a range of tiles that celebrate this unique material’s natural aesthetics, tones, and nuances. Its Naturals and Tradition collections stand testimony to the variety of finishes that can be achieved, from chunky, rustic cork patterns to light and dark colour finishes; each provides the scope and adaptability to be incorporated into modern and traditional home design.

Granorte’s cork tiles are created using cork typically discarded as part of the wine-bottling process. The result is a range of water-resistant and hardwearing floors with a strong sustainability message.
Interior trends for 2022 bring together our need for comforting familiarity and joyful adventure. To be more expressive and emotional, as we reconnect with a world that felt closed to us last year, and a time to make bolder colour choices and embrace more patterns.
Harvey Maria is seeing the following flooring trends begin to emerge which reflects these themes.
Colour Positivity: Decorating with joyful colours from pastels to brights are all predicted to be big this year. Terracotta and baked earth tones that imbue a sense of cosiness are here to stay, as are natural neutrals - blues, greens, browns & hints of yellow.
Chequerboard Pattern: Harvey Maria has a large selection of plain coloured floor tiles that can be used to create all chequerboard patterns - everything goes this year and they are seeing fabulous schemes that go way beyond the classic black & white.

Harvey Maria’s Check and Dovetail designs work this trend in slightly smaller spaces, and can also be used to create and define ‘Spaces to escape’ such as Book Nooks, or to inject some luxe into a small laundry or utility area.
Harvey Maria has just launched a stylish new LVT collection - Parquet 2.0 - created in collaboration with Neisha Crosland. This brand new series of colourways celebrate the classic geometric design, and introduces a contemporary palette with a reversed pattern. Parquet 2.0 is the perfect blend of classic design and modern practicality, creating a chic, playful feel in both modern and traditional interiors. The new collection comes in four colourways – Chalkboard, College Blue, Pavestone and Washed Blue.

At the end of 2021,
Abingdon Flooring expanded its SoftStep cushion vinyl range with colour and pattern centric collections that offer consumers key tile styles with the comfort and convenience of cushion vinyl. This versatile material opens the opportunity to explore finishes and colours and lends itself perfectly to tile style flooring solutions.
Mexico has a history of hand-crafted tiles, and part of Abingdon Flooring’s Mexico collection focuses on “Mexican Maiolica” or Talavera inspired artisanal tile-effect floors. Using the principle of celebrating pattern and colour, it incorporates a modern palette of dusty pastels, bold colours, and monochromatic tones with eye-catching designs to suit contemporary interior trends.

The SoftStep Mexico collection is compatible with underfloor heating and is water- and slip-resistant, making it ideal for bathrooms, entranceways, and kitchens. It comes with a seven-year wear warranty and a choice of width options allows for small or large projects.
Taking inspiration from materials and earthy tones, the Pure Collection from
BerryAlloc explores a mix of terrazzo, poured concretes, smooth stone finishes and metallics in tile form. Each offers a calming aesthetic that can be used to contrast with light and pastel trends or as a rich accompaniment to multi-layer interior design schemes.

Unlike natural counterparts, the collection offers an acoustic-friendly alternative with a unique top layer that is comfortable to walk on. BerryAlloc’s DreamClick system allows homeowners to explore a mix and match of tile finishes and opens the possibilities to open-plan zoning and individuality.
Avenue Floors has long been associated with on-trend floor solutions, so it is no surprise that its vast collection includes a focus on tile styles.
2021 saw the introduction of new products to its durable Titanium XT collection, including Jester, which explores a dynamic triangular form, and Treviso’s hexagonal shapes with a contemporary twist. Both are inspired by tile and grout contrasts in calming greys. This style features heavily within interior design, and Avenue Floor’s adaptation makes it even more achievable for those looking for a quick, budget-friendly flooring makeover.

Leoline’s ethos of making style easy is evident in its Ceramica Collection, which aims to connect homeowners with the luxury looks and feel of marble, stone, terrazzo and tile without the stress or high-end price tag associated with solid floors.
Its collection consists of sixteen finishes that effortlessly recreate the aesthetics of materials that would typically be out of reach of the average household budget, making it easier to incorporate marble into hallways or terrazzo into bathrooms. This ties in well with retro luxe trends that continue to be a factor within interior design in 2022.

Each floor depicts the nuances of natural materials or the design of patterned tiles, while Leoline’s superguard finish helps the range cope with the stresses of modern living.
Large-format tiles in marble and stone designs continue to be a flooring trend in 2022. With monochrome tones and subtle patterns, they create a dramatic look in any space.
With the XXL Impression Collection,
Kährs have perfectly recreated what nature has designed - all in a material that’s made to withstand everyday wear. Ultra-large stone design tiles measuring 457 x 914 mm are guaranteed to make an impact in any space while the rigid core and unique 5G Click locking technology offer maximum durability and stability.
These large-format vinyl tiles are suitable for underfloor heating, are Phthalate-free and provide 20 dB sound reduction, thanks to the IXPE backing. The ceramic coating makes the surface easy to clean and scratch- and dent-resistant, while the waterproof material prevents spillages from making any permanent damage.

From light to dark, marble to granite, subtle to daring, the collection expresses a timeless, yet modern elegance that’s perfectly in tune with Swedish design traditions. The extra-large formats enhance the natural impression of these floors, make smaller rooms feel larger and give larger rooms an imposing, elegant look.
With matching accessories including skirtings, cover strips, installation tools and aftercare products, Kährs offer a complete flooring solution.
