Winter blues? The 2022 colour palette
Although we love Griege, as it is such a versatile colour that is incredibly easy to furnish to, this feature investigates other popular colour choices from leading brands.
Each year, the Pantone colour institute selects a colour of the year that reflects what is taking place in our global culture. The Pantone colour of the year for 2022, is Very Peri. It encompasses the trusted qualities of blue, yet at the same time possesses a dynamic violet-red undertone.
Pantone say they created Very Peri to give a new perspective to our beloved blue and to encourage creativity and imaginative expression. Interestingly, Dulux also selected a blue for their 2022 colour of the year. Dulux’s Bright Skies is an airy and fresh tone that opens up and breathes new life into any space and works beautifully with green, blue and earth tones - all of which appear in this feature.
Abingdon Flooring
report that floors have stepped up to the mark when it comes to adding pattern, colour and personality. They have seen a drive towards patterns which heralded a launch of its Stainfree Wilton collection, while 2022 is tipped to be its most colourful yet, with the launch of a new range of super-soft and colour palette exploring carpets.
Where marine blues were a common feature in home design in recent years, blue tones are taking on a more sultry appeal, with velvet inspired blues adding depth and a touch of luxury. These work beautifully with maximalist and retro-luxe trends.

“We’ve been used to seeing printed wallpapers and fabrics taking the lead in interior design, so it’s great to see a growing consumer awareness of how their choice of floor can support their home-style,” reflects Martin Peace, marketing director, Abingdon Flooring.
“A confidence to play with colour has been gleaned from the ability for consumers to take inspiration from social media platforms, where one look at interior design accounts can provide a wealth of trend and practical advice.”
Stella Coyle, national retail sales manager at
Karndean Designflooring,
commented: “The latest home trends focus more than ever on health and wellbeing, featuring cosy interiors with an inside-outside vibe that connects us to the healing benefits of nature. Combining gentle organic colours and tactile textures with geometric patterns and colour blocking techniques, designers are creating spaces that comfort and reassure whilst also allowing us to express our individuality.”

Karndean Designflooring – Heritage Collection, Clifton
Karndean Designflooring' tile ranges offer striking possibilities to design a truly unique floor to suit any interior. With nostalgic trends harking back to earlier decades including Victoriana, mid-century and 1970s, a geometric floor can recreate the style of the past but with all the practicality of the latest cutting edge materials.
The Heritage Collection presents four iconic geometric patterns inspired by Victorian splendour while the Kaleidoscope range includes seven timeless geometric designs that can be used to create visual contrast or an impactful 3D effect. Fully customisable, these ranges are available in a wide choice of colourways, including classic monochrome and traditional bold shades, or in an unexpected bespoke combination of colours for a contemporary style that will attract attention for all the right reasons.
Alternative Flooring has collections that are bursting with colour and personality. Honeycomb Moss is a colourful patterned wool carpet from the award-winning Quirky collection by Alternative Flooring.

Adam Carpets has added ten new colours to their infamous Fine Worcester Twist range. The new colours are linked to two trend groups which they believe will be particularly relevant in 2022.
Kelly Butler, design manager at Adam Carpets explains, “Relationships and emotional well-being form the central theme in our new trends forecast.
Our connection to the natural world and harnessing the power of positivity is key. We have identified two key colour groups. The first trend palette is named Reflections and consists of warm neutrals, that help create spaces to relax and retreat, providing serenity within our homes.

Our second trend is Global Traveller, which incorporates warm
earthy tones and bold finishes. This palette was inspired by Aztec patterns and weaves in various scales, and the landscapes of long awaited travel and adventure.”
The Fine Worcester twist range has over 65 colours and is available in 4m and 5m widths, giving superb choice to consumers.
Made using premium UK wool, the Fine Worcester Twist range is manufactured in Adam Carpets own facility in Kidderminster. The 1/10th gauge construction provides a finer, pin-point surface whilst the 2 ply-yarn delivers better durability and appearance retention.
